For bolts that require different thread lengths yet exhibit comparable mechanical properties, refer to Specification A354 grade BD.Notably, ASTM A490 bolts must not undergo hot-dip galvanization, mechanical deposition, or electroplating with zinc to prevent the risk of hydrogen embrittlement. Instead, ASTM has sanctioned the use of Zinc/Aluminum Corrosion Protective Coatings as per ASTM F1136 Grade 3, marketed as Geomet.
